A guide to the Automate shipments section

How does the Shipment section work for Automate customers and what can I do there?

Overview

The shipments section is used to book, view and manage shipments:

🗣️ Please note, some customers may have additional tabs, including Orders and/or Attention.

Views

The available views are as follows:

Incomplete

The shipments displayed in this view have not been booked. They are either shipment bookings in progress or shipment bookings ready to process that were created via an API movement demand call.

For Dispatch

All shipments displayed in this view have been completed (manually or via an API), but the consignment has not been handed over to the provider.  This view also allows the user to select the applicable date/times for the provider, if it's not a 'scheduled pickup', and also print documents including a shipping manifest.

A shipment’s dispatch options include:

  • Scheduled pickup = a scheduled day/time when the provider will pickup shipments based on a pre-arranged agreement.
  • Drop-off =  the customer/shipper will be responsible to "drop" the shipment at the providers agreed location vs the provider picking up the package from the customer/shipper.
  • If a scheduled pickup is not found, the booking default will be displayed in the “drop-off” section. It is possible to a change a drop-off to an “on-demand pickup” (this is subject to the platform, carrier and account’s support for booking on-demand pickups).
  • On-demand pickup = a non-scheduled pickup (the provider will be requested to come to the shippers location), primarily changed from a 'drop-off'.

Shipped

All shipments listed in this view have been booked with a date/time from the 'For Dispatch' screen and manifested with the provider (the tracking event 'manifested' has been received). The shipment is awaiting confirmation from the provider that it's received (picked up or dropped off).

In transit

All shipments listed in this view are in the 'hands' of the provider; according to tracking updates i.e. the tracking update has provided a pickup date and tracking event 'in progress'.

  • An estimated delivery date should be displayed, or if the provider has not transmitted this information via tracking, "expected" will be displayed.

Delivered

All shipments listed in this view meet the following conditions:

  • Shipment is not cancelled
  • Tracking has provided a delivery date and the status 'delivered'

Pickups

This view displays a list of scheduled and on-demand pickup date/times and the current booking status as follows:

  • Requested = a related booking/pickup has been created, but it has not been sent to the provider.
  • Scheduled = a related booking has been booked with the provider.
