Roles and permissions
What do the different roles mean for users?
Each user of the 7bridges platform is assigned a role, which determines the permissions available to them. Roles control access to specific features, functionality, and areas of the platform. Below is a summary of the available roles.
Admin
Full account control. Admins can do pretty much anything in the 7bridges software. This includes manage company and account settings, manage users, configure providers and services, and handle invoices, disputes, and shipments. This is the highest-access role, intended for your organisation's super-user and/or platform administrators. This is likely the people who oversee your use of the 7bridges software.
🗣️ Admin user roles are initially created during onboarding, although more can be added by existing admin users. Please refer to these articles for more information on creating a new user or updating an existing user.
⚠️ Please note, 7bridges teams (e.g. customer support and product operations) are unable to create new users on your behalf. 7bridges only creates the first admin user during onboarding. This is inline with our contracts and security policies.
Optimise
Built for network and freight optimisation. This role can run simulations and freight/network optimisation experiments, and manage carriers, invoices, disputes, and shipments. It provides similar operational capabilities to the Admin role but does not include account settings management or user management.
Finance
Focused on financial oversight. This role provides access to invoices, credit notes, spend alerts, and finance and admin reporting, with read-only visibility of disputes and shipments. It does not include shipment execution, carrier management, or account administration capabilities.
Ship
Designed for day-to-day shipping operations. This role can create and track shipments, manage addresses and pickups, handle returns, and access shipping-related reporting. It is focused on shipment execution and does not include administrative or finance permissions.
Ship Admin
A supervisory shipping role. In addition to all Ship permissions, Ship Admin users can manage shipment settings and consolidations, handle disputes, and access ship-admin reporting.
API
Designed for system-to-system integrations rather than end users. This role provides API access for creating and managing shipments, including batch imports. It does not include access to the 7bridges user interface or reporting capabilities.
