How to use fulfilment rules

Fulfilment rules can be used to automate some of the decision making in your shipping process saving you time. This guide outlines what our fulfilment rules can do for your business.

Many businesses have complex decision making logic when it comes to shipping and often this is either undocumented or in individual employees' heads. This presents a risk as well as an inefficiency for your business. Through the use of our fulfilment rules, our Automate product can help automate that decision making to streamline your shipping process; making it more efficient.

What is a fulfilment rule?

A fulfilment rules enables the 7bridges platform to automatically make a decision in regards to your shipment booking based on the data provided and required action as a result.

For example, when a shipment originates in the United Kingdom and the destination country is France, then you may only want certain UPS services to be made available for that shipment booking.

What rules can 7bridges handle?

Configuring a fulfilment rule is dependent on 2 things.

  1. The data conditions that will cause a given rule to be applied
  2. The required actions to be executed as a result of a shipment booking meeting the configured rule

Data conditions:

7bridges can currently cater for the following data conditions as part of a fulfilment rule:

  • Match an origin country (eg GB)
  • Match a destination country (eg DE)
  • Match a tag (e.g. Marketplace_Order)
    • Tags must be applied via our API to the associated order
  • Match an origin address
  • Match a destination address
  • Match an origin fulfilment location (as configured in the Locations section)
  • Match a destination fulfilment location (as configured in the Locations section)
  • Match an originating company name
  • Field matching a regular expression
    • Currently this only looks at the shipment reference
  • Total value within a specified range
    • Based on overall value of SKU's in the shipment
  • Match UK postal code
  • Match postal code prefix
  • Match destination type
    • Business or consumer (must be defined via our API)
  • Match a product code (SKU)

Note: Conditions can either match (include) with the provided data or not match (exclude) depending on your requirements.

Actions:

7bridges can currently cater for the following actions as part of a fulfilment rule:

Constraints:

  • Fixed fulfilment location
  • Fixed shipping method
  • Fixed shipping method on the order
  • Fixed provider account
  • Fixed provider

Note: These can be configured to either include or exclude the specified values in the constraint.

Set EOR/IOR:

Depending on your business needs, the fulfilment rules can be used to set different EOR's and IOR's on your shipment bookings in the event that you use different entities when shipping to/from different countries.
